Dramafever adds “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty” to Upcoming Shows
Dramafever has just announced the addition of upcoming kdrama “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” to its July lineup. This perky little drama, based off the much beloved webtoon of the same name, is promising miles of cute and adorable from its leading couple.
“My ID is Gangnam Beauty” tells the heartwarming story of a young woman, Kang Mi Rae(Lim Soo Hyang) who, after years of being bullied for her “ugly” appearance, finally makes the desperate decision to undergo plastic surgery. However when Mi Rae enters college with her beautiful new face she continues to be bullied, this time for having had plastic surgery. Adding insult to injury, her tormenters give her the nickname “Gangnam Beauty.” (Gangnam is a district in Seoul known for its many plastic surgery clinics.) Mi Rae seems destined to be forever abused for her appearance; until one day she meets someone who is different from any other student.
Enter Do Kyung Seok(Cha Eun Woo), a dashing college student whose icey exterior hides his warm heart. Kyung Seok, although beautiful himself, isn’t concerned with the appearance of others and gets to know Mi Rae for the precious person she is. Together they help eachother to heal and discover the beauty within.
Since I haven’t read the original webtoon this drama is based on, the character descriptions are still pretty empty in my opinion. However, the trailer (see below) is showcasing all kinds of levels of adorable between the leads. My favorite part is the beginning when Mi Rae seems to have told Do Kyung that she has had plastic surgery and he replies with a rather cheeky “Whatever for?”
But what excites me most about this drama is that it will cause the topics of plastic surgery and bullying to come to to the forefront of public discussion. Plastic surgery has been a hot topic for years in Korea with many Koreans believing they have to have surgery in order to fit the perceived beauty standards. Hopefully this drama will do for plastic surgery what “Angry Mom” did for bullying and cause the topic, if nothing else, to be discussed openly for the damage it is doing to people’s lives and self worth.
So what do you think? Will you be checking out “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” this July 27?
