What Will Happen to Dramafever’s Dramas? The Rescue of KDrama Begins

With Dramafever gone forever, the big question left in all our minds is what will happen to their Korean dramas?  Dramafever’s collection included 100’s of beloved Korean and Chinese titles and many currently airing dramas exclusively streamed by them.  Although Viki.com (their main competitor) also has a large selection of great KDramas, most of the lost dramas aren’t available there since their rights were owned by Dramafever.

Like a white knight come to rescue us, OnDemand Korea announced today that they will soon have the streaming rights to many of Dramafever’s lost Korean dramas.

Please comment below with your thoughts about the Dramafever crisis.  What are you doing to survive the “Drama-pocalypse?”  Are you planning on joining OnDemand Korea and Viki.com?

What will Happen to Dramafever's Korean Dramas?

Which Dramafever Dramas are moving to OnDemand Korea?

Although they haven’t officially announced all the Dramafever dramas that have been rescued, we know many of our favorites will be among them.  Such as:

Devilish Joy

Terius Behind Me

My ID is Gangnam Beauty

Third Charm

Are You Human Too?

Still 17

Will there be subtitles?

If you have visited OnDemand Korea’s website before, you may have noticed that not all of their dramas include English Subtitles.  This is unfortunate, but when asked OnDemand Korea has the following to say:

“We are currently working to obtain subtitle licenses for all the content we provide.

At OnDemandKorea, we strive to deliver the best streaming service through legal channels. While we try our best to obtain as many subtitle licenses as possible to ensure our customers’ complete satisfaction, we are at times unable to obtain the necessary license from original content providers.

We hope to be able to provide subtitles for all our content in the near future.”

However, fans can rejoice this time.   According to their prior announcement, OnDemand will be releasing Dramafever’s content with subtitles.

How can I tell which of OnDemand Korea’s Dramas have English Subtitles?

If you are unsure how to tell which of the KDramas currently on OnDemand Korea have English subtitles, you can tell quickly by going to the tab labeled “Dramas” and then looking for the word “en” underneath the dramas’ titles.

Where is OnDemand Korea available?

Unfortunately, right now OnDemand Korea is only available in South and North America.  However, they have said that they are working to expand to other areas.

How Much Does a Subscription Cost?

Although you can watch their dramas for free with ads, OnDemand also offers a subscription package. Currently, the price for “ODK Plus Membership” is only $6.99 per month, but we will have to wait to see if this changes after they add the new dramas to their line-up.

Price to watch dramas on OnDemand Korea

Although the end of Dramafever has shaken the KDrama fandom to its core, this does not mean the end of our Korean Drama love.  With wonderful sites like Viki and OnDemand Korea still here, we will be able to watch all our favorite KDramas for a long time to come.  Now, if only we could get someone to rescue Dramafever’s Chinese Dramas…

Were any of your favorites on the list of rescued Korean Dramas?  Please tell us in the comments below what you think of OnDemand Korea’s announcement.

Just went to the ondemandkorea site. I know they will be growing & changing according to the needs of new viewers, but I’ll be sticking with Viki because of the rating system and the comments after each episode. I love reading other’s thoughts about the dramas from around the world. Dramafever reduced most of the info into a strict review & rating system without filters to see the highest reviews or the lowest–which is a great opportunity to size-up a drama if you’re trying to find something aligning with your tastes.

I find OnDemandKorea quite the conundrum. They list all of their shows with English descriptions but the majority do not have English subtitles. This means it’s pointless to describe it to me if I can’t watch it but also, assuming the people who speak Korean aren’t fluent in English than they’re in a similar position of they want to read the description. How can they (ODK) not see that??

As to the review sections of Viki and DramaFever, I found them unreliable because often a drama had 10 stars before it even aired one episode. I admit that I usually pick which shows to watch based on my biases but that’s no guarantee that the show will be good. Watchable for me, yes. But actually “good”, I don’t know until it airs and is completed.

I used to be a member of ODK. Their customer service was fabulous. But I ended my membership, when they practically stopped bringing Kdrama with English subs, even the daily drama.

For a good source of KBS, MBC, and SBS drama I suggest KOCOWA. (They are the source)

I always had Viki and Dramafever, so I am keeping Viki and have been looking at Kocowa to replace Dramafever. I know they already have a deal with Viki, but I was watching Terius Behind Me and they carry it. I signed up for free and have been watching an old drama to see if I like the site. It buffers well for me and I like it, although it seems to be a pretty no nonsense site. It has taken me a couple days to watch 15 minutes of a drama because the whole Dramafever poof thing sort of took the wind from my sails. Apparently I have picked up some trust issues.

@Barbara Werden – Try ODK’s web site . You can play their videos directly on the web without the app. Although I have no problem with their app on Android. Their app for Roku has a glitch whereby the subtitles only show half a sentence. I called them and they said they’re aware of the problem but could give me no estimated time when it will be resolved The web site works well on Amazon Firestick’s internet option.

Once this app updates their subs in English, then I will again subscribe from them. All new ones don’t have subtitles

I have always had both DF and Viki, but only after DF leaving did I realize that I rarely used it for new content (they had most of my old favorites that I’d return to). Still, there is a sense of emptiness, since some of us have been there from the beginning.Never been more thankful for Viki than now. I decided I won’t do kocowa, since I already have Viki and I’m not too in a hurry to watch currently airing content the day of. However, I’m happy to be in for ODK. I plan to go Plus once they “re-launch” with the subtitled content since I was planning to start a recently ended drama on DF. I like family dramas, therfore I like ODK so far.

Hey OK great for K dramas but what about the rest of the Asian dramas? I also love CDramas, JDramas, Thai dramas, Tiaw dramas and Jdramas. Where those gonna go? Will there ever be a sight as good as DF with all their site perks?

  • 무지개Minseo

Almost NONE of their content is subbed. Even when they show “English” many are incorrect and not subbed. They carry a LOT of daytime dramas and reality shows and NONE of them are subbed. I looked at 10 dramas and only one was subbed. Several said the “english” subs thing and totally were not. So it’s not really functioning unless you already speak Korean.
