Breaking News: Song Joong Ki, Kim Ji Won, and Jang Dong Gun confirm casting in “Asadal Chronicles”

This is happening people!  Song Joong Ki, Kim Ji Won, Jang Dong Gun have all confirmed for blockbuster drama “Asadal Chronicles.”  Along with the earlier casting of Kim Ok Bin, “Asadal’s” main cast is complete at last.

The Tale:

“Asadal Chronicles” will tell the magical tale behind the power struggle of the founding of Korea.  The story is based on ancient legend, so much of it is built from a mishmash of myth and fact.   (For example, Asadal’s founder supposedly was the son of a bear woman and a prince from heaven.)  The city of Asadal itself is a myth, imagined to be the capital city of Ancient Joseon (Gojoseon.)

The Characters:

Song Joong Ki will play the lead role of Eun Seom, a man born in a humble village but with a strong fate.  At his birth, Eun Seom was cursed/blessed by the appearance of a blue comet and a ominous prophecy.  Because of the comet’s curse, his mother struggled bravely to protect her son, to the detriment of their island village.   As an adult, Eun Seom conquered the kingdom of Asadal and turned it into an empire.

Kim Ji Won will take the role of leading lady, Tan Ya, a woman said to be born “with the energy of the blue comet.”  (Ah, I see what you did there, drama; man cursed by blue comet, lady with energy of blue comet.  Yeah, this is going to be good.)  She will be Eun Seom’s first love and will grow to become the first female politician and first crown princess of Asadal.

Jang Dong Gun will play the role of war hero Ta Gon.  Ta Gon has an impressive history, having led his people to victory in a major war.  However, he dreams of becoming king.  Lastly, Kim Ok Bin will take the role of the first empress of Asadal.

Also signed on is the screenwriter from historical drama “Tree with Deep Roots” and the PD from recent hits “Signal” and “My Ajusshi.”  Seeing this writer, PD, and cast attached to the same drama is giving me shivers of excitement.

“Asadal Chronicles” is being planned for broadcast in early 2019.
