What is Viki.com?

Viki.com is an online site and mobile app which gives you streaming access to dramas anywhere you go.  Unlike other sites, Viki’s subtitles are created by the Viki community, so subbing can happen more quickly and with more accuracy.  (Seriously, Viki’s subs are so much more accurate than the other sites.)  Additionally, members (and non-members) can request dramas they want to see added.

Why I love Viki.com:

Really there is so much to love about Viki, but these are my top reasons:

  • Subtitles on dramas not available anywhere else

    • With Dramafever gone, access to our favorite shows has become a serious issue for drama fans like us.  But Viki’s collection of dramas is huge.  Seriously, HUGE.  At last count, they have in their library 683 Asian Dramas.
    • In addition to their classic dramas, Viki’s collection also includes many currently airing shows unavailable through any other platform, such as “Fates and Furies,” “Love Alert,” “Twelve Nights,” and “Mama Fairy and the Woodcutter.”
  • Language Learning built-in

    • If you are trying to learn Korean, Viki is your go-to resource.  Most of Viki’s dramas now have a learning option built directly into their subs.  Now viewers can read along with a transcription in Korean of what is being said.  Or they can even click on individual words for their translation.  I have been using this feature for a few months now, and I have to admit it has been way more helpful than I could have imagined.
    • Recently, Viki has also opened a new language learning site, VIKI Learn, which teaches Korean using only KDramas.  It is this language learner’s dream come true.
  • Community

    • Subbing on Viki is entirely community-based.  Average human beings, living average lives, swoop in like superheroes to create subtitles for each drama.  Subbing becomes available as it happens, so if you want to you can start watching with only partial subbing — this really comes in handy when even one more hour is too long to wait.  Also, because the subs are created by Korean speakers, the translations feel more natural and accurate.  I’ve compared the subs on Viki to other sites, and they really are superior.
  • Customer Attention

    • Perhaps the best part of Viki is that they listen to their viewers.  After the end of Dramafever, Viki was the first service to reach out to grieving KDrama viewers everywhere.  They understood how we felt because Viki is run by KDrama fans just like us.
    • Another huge benefit, if a drama you’d like to watch is not currently available, you can request that it be added.  I have personally done this before with the C-Drama “Cinderella’s Chef” and it really worked!  A few weeks later Viki added the drama!

Still not sure if you will like Viki?  No worries.  Viki comes with a 7-day free trial.  Try it and if you don’t love it, you can give it back.  But come on, who doesn’t love watching their favorite Korean Dramas?

But hurry!  The offer ends soon! (12/09/2018)
