FAMILY IS EVERYTHING: Favorite Found Families in KDramas

It is November which means the leaves are changing and it is getting colder. It will soon be the season of sweaters, scarves, and possibly snow, but FIRST we get to enjoy the beauty of fall (my favorite season)

Found Families KDrama (Leaves)

Another reason I love November is because one of my favorite holidays is in this month. Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks for the things you are grateful for in life and enjoying food. It is also about family. Whether it is your family by blood OR your created “family” of people who you cherish and surround yourself with in life.

NOVEMBER MEANS I GET TO TALK ABOUT ONE OF MY FAVORITE TROPES IN KDRAMAS: FOUND FAMILY!! Found family is exactly what it sounds like: when a character or characters in a KDrama come together to achieve one goal or to just form a hodge-podge of people bonding like a family.

Wait. You say you have never seen a KDrama with a found family? Well, you honestly probably have because this trope can be used in all types of dramas, but you probably didn’t realize it.

Top 5 KDramas with Found Families

Here are my top 5 KDramas with Found Families: (naturally all of them are crime dramas -HEY I HAVE TO LIVE UP TO MY NAME!) (in no particular order and only ones I have actually watched)

The Player
  1. The Player – HANDS DOWN ONE OF FAVORITE DRAMAS OF ALL TIME! Just a group of people with different sets of skills who are brought together to bring down the bad guys. There is a conman, a fighter, a hacker/computer whiz, and the driver. It is a short and exciting drama that is a roller coaster ride with some very touching moments.
Mad Dog

2. Mad Dog – This drama tackles crimes having to do with insurance. The drama again brings together a group of people with a diverse set of skills to solve a mystery (this one being an airplane crash and the fallout of it).

Bad Guys

3. Bad Guys – This drama is unique. Usually these types of dramas bring together people who have been wronged themselves to solve a mystery or catch a bad guy. But this drama brings together ALREADY bad guys to catch even worse criminals. STILL A VERY FUN DRAMA! This drama even got a second season AND a movie based on it.

Sketch

4. Sketch – This drama throws in some fantasy into the plot but the “found family” aspect is essentially the same. A hidden group/branch of the police try to stop crimes before they happen, all while trying to solve an over-arching crime throughout the drama. Again bringing together a diverse set of people with different skills to achieve a goal.

Graceful Family

5. Graceful Family – This recently completed KDrama is a little different, but it still has crime and people coming together to solve a murder. The difference is that there is a family involved from the beginning of this drama. So this drama explores the dynamics of an ACTUAL family and what it means to be family BUT also how the female lead creates and finds her own family to solve a mystery.

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT! No matter if they are related to you by blood or it is a group of people who support you and what you are doing in life. This group protects you and allows you to face hardships in life. They take your mind off things in life and are a shoulder to lean on when you are sad. This group makes you happy and allows you to be yourself. FOUND FAMILIES IN KDRAMAS ARE ALL OF THIS AS WELL!

We are grateful for our families and “found families” during this Thanksgiving Season. We are also thankful for you guys, our “found KDrama supporters/community/family.”

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!
